James Steindl is a 2017 LHP/1B with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Harrington Park, NJ who attends N Valley Reg H Old Tappan. Large, athletic build with a projectable build and room to fill out with addition strength. Ran a 7.46 60-yard dash. Primary left-handed pitcher, throws from a three-quarter arm slot with a solid arm speed coming through and finishes well over his front side. Fastball topped out at 82 mph with late running life, especially down in the zone and showed comfort in throwing to the inner half of the plate. Mixes well and moves ball around with intent, strong feel for curveball, topped out at 68 mph with 1-7 shape and ability to locate to either side of the plate. Same loose and easy arm action at first base, soft hands to pick the ball, athletic actions fielding the ball out front. Left-handed hitter, starts with an open base and shows quiet stride into contact. Quick barrel through the zone with quick hands, gets to front side early at times but has feel for the barrel. Consistent pull side contact with some uphill in swing path. Good student.
