2016 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Alex Jones is a 2017 OF/LHP with a 5-9 150 lb. frame from Bowmanville, ON who attends St Stephens HS. Small frame with a lean athletic build. Left handed hitter with a spread, slightly crouched stance. Linear lower half actions with shift into contact. Shows a compact, inside path to contact with a line drive swing plane. Smooth mechanics with balanced throughout swing. Flashed solid pop to the gaps with present bat speed. Primarily used a mid-field approach but shows the barrel skills to hit to all fields. Worked out defensively from the outfield showing good first step angles with athletic actions while closing on baseball. Compact arm circle with a smooth arm action from a three quarters arm slot. Curl hop momentum with a downhill throwing angle that produces plus arm whip, topped at 86 mph. Also pitched showing a smooth tempo delivery with balance. Medium arm action back with a mid three quarters arm slot at release. Loose arm with some quickness through extenstion. Fastball has some arm side run in the upper 70's to low 80's. Curveball has 1/7 shape with good downward plane and depth. Flashed a change up at 69 mph with slight arm side run. Athletic tools that will continue to improve with physical maturity. Ran a 6.81 sixty-yard dash. Outstanding student.
