Derek Gaswirth is a 2017 3B/2B/OF with a 5-11 192 lb. frame from Poway, CA who attends Poway HS. Gaswirth has a lean build with room to fill out and add strength. Hits from an upright open stance with a high back elbow. Gets to square, linear hand path to ball with good weight shift into contact. Shows good bat speed with jump off the barrel. Has strength in swing and showed good power to his pull side. Defensively, primary a 3B, fields out front with smooth glove actions and a clean transfer and release, has tools to stick at 3B with good arm strength and carry across diamond. From the OF, short sure steps to ball, sure actions, ball comes out clean. Outstanding Student.
