Avery Conkin is a 2017 OF/LHP/1B with a 6-3 215 lb. frame from Jonesborough, TN who attends Science Hill HS. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a strong, mature build with present strength throughout. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, fields the ball out front, short and quick steps moving towards the ball, full arm stroke through the backside, works to a higher release point, needs to utilize additional lower half at release but shows quickness to arm action. Similar footwork coming off the first base bag, lower slots from first base but still shows accuracy to the intended base. Also pitched, begins with a side step moving into delivery with quick-tempo, works from a mid three-quarters arm slot at release. Fastball topped out at 80 mph, mostly true in life, and showed two off speed pitches for strikes. Curveball shows nice spin with sweeping depth at 67 mph, maintains arm speed well on straight changeup at 70, creates some deception on pitch. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a spread stance and carries hands low throughout swing. Upper body dominant swing, uses hands well, looks to create leverage at the point of contact and incorporate physical strength, pull side approach in the box. Excellent student.
