Von Schwarz is a strong bodied and projectable 6-1, 185 lb junior catcher from Texas with square shoulders and strong features. He ran 7.37 in the 60 and threw 74 mph during catching drills with a best pop time of 2.11. His 4.42 time to first base shows that he has some athletic speed and quickness. Von Schwarz's work out pop times are true pop times because he didn't anticipate or jump out at all and threw just like he would have in a game with a batter swinging. We like to see that in a young catcher. Von Schwarz's catching fundamentals are very sound and he's a hard working defender who will be a defensive asset at the next level. At the plate, Von Schwarz has the present strength to generate bat speed but gets very little out of his hips and lower half and ends up with just an upper body swing. He showed the ability to handle the bat head and should keep improving as he loosens up his hips and uses his lower half better. Very good follow. Named to the Top Prospect Game.
