Jesse Garcia is a 2018 1B/RHP with a 6-2 235 lb. frame from El Cajon, CA who attends Grossmont HS. Large frame with a solid build and present strength. Ran a 8.27 sixty yard dash. Primary first baseman deliberate footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball with developing fluidity. Topped at 80 mph across the infield while a high energy arm action at release. Throws generated accurate, on line carry to the bag. Right handed hitter with a straight, balance stance. Showed a loose, smooth swing path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Has very good raw strength at contact creating hard, loud contact. Baseball exploded off the barrel on a deep home run in batting practice. Repeats swing well with solid balance through finish. Also pitched showing a simple side step to high leg kick delivery. Creates torque over rear leg while coiling front side at gather. Utilizes lower half well while staying on line to the plate and finish. Creates a short arm circle back at separation and releases from a compact arm action. Fastball topped at 81 mph and flashed solid cutting action when working to glove side. Curveball has 12/6 shape with softer spin and good depth when located at the bottom of the zone. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition. Good student. Named to the 2016 West Coast Showcase Underclass Top Prospect List.
