Nick Maronde is a 2008 LHP with a 6'3'', 195 lb. frame from Lexington, KY who attends Lexington Catholic HS. He has a tall and lean build with plenty of strength projection from his broad shoulders. Maronde has a multi-piece delivery with some drop and drive direction to the plate and doesn't give hitter's much of a chance to see the ball. His fastball is consistently 90-92 mph with late run and sink and he shows the ability to pitch on the corners with his fastball. Maronde's 80 mph slider has a hard 2-plane break to it with very good depth and he has the same type of command with his slider as his does his fastball. Maronde also throws a nice change up with fade to it that should continue to develop. Maronde has feel for his pitches and plus command potential and competes hard. He compares to 2007 LHP prospect Josh Smoker in many ways and could be a similar draft.
