Tony Calhoun is a 2009 OF/P with a 6'1'', 165 lb. frame from Temecula CA, who attends Temecula Valley HS. He was selected at a Top '09 Prospect and was ranked the PG's #1 '09 prospect in the nation during the spring. Calhoun has a lean, wiry strong, athletic body and some quick twitch fiber. Calhoun is most advanced on the mound and frankly, his stuff is electric. However he is also a talented offensive player and his arm plays quite well in the outfield. On the mound he has a good delivery and loads well over the rubber. He is a legitimate low-90s arm, topping out at 92 mph and sitting 90-91 mph. Calhoun also has a sharp, hard breaking, two plane curveball (72-73 mph) that actually seems harder than the velocity. Calhoun is not just a strong armed young pitcher. He has some feel of the baseball and throws strikes. His arm is loose and fast and the ball comes out cleanly. Offensively Calhoun showed plus bat speed and hands that fire really well. He hits hard line drives and showed a good opposite field stroke, keeping his barrel in the zone for an extended time. His power stroke will develop in time with the bat speed and strength he has. In a physical ability sense, few players in the '09 class can match Calhoun.

Anthony Calhoun is a 2009 RHP/OF from Temecula Valley HS, residing in Temecula, CA, with a 6'1" 165 lb. frame. Calhoun was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase and in the future will be invited to the National Showcase. He has a strong and flexible build with long arms. His physical make-up is potentially powerful while at the same time having looseness, a very good body for an elite pitching prospect. On the mound Calhound pitches from a high 3/4 slot with a long and clean backside arm action. He is able to get to good extension out front at release, an indication of his good body control during his delivery. He is a power arm with considerable projectability remaining, unlike some young hard throwers that physically peak too early. In late January Calhoun showed an stiff 87-89 mph fastball with some arm side action, a 69-71 mph curveball with big sweeping action, and a 75-76 mph change-up with late dipping action that he delivered with good arm speed. He has has been seen numerous times above 90 mph (T93) by the Perfect Game staff. His stuff is clearly good enough to give his team a chance to win every time out. Calhoun is also intriguing as an offensive player, though more for the college level than the pro game. He has an aggressive nature yet displays a patient approach. He understands the strike zone well, surprisingly so for a young player. Calhoun's bat is long in the zone which is an asset and best emphasized when he is using the middle and opposite field. Currently he shows gap to gap power but that body suggests he will develop more power as his strength gains continue. To further illustrate that potential, Calhoun makes loud contact with good hand and bat speed. He is strong and relies on those hands as a hittter. On defense Calhoun has good feet and takes good angles while playing with good body control. He has slinging type arm action and the ball exits his hand very well. He has that loose arm and gets to good extension, keeping his throws low. Overall, his offensive and defensive abilities suggest he can become a solid right fielder, certainly at the college level. On the mound he is a top '09 prospect, a premium talent on mound, and a potential two-way talent at the college level.

Calhoun is a 6' 165 pound athlete who plays almost every position and is one of the most talented 09's in the country. He attends Temecula Valley High School in Temecula, California. Anthony has a long lean frame and build who is going to get taller and much stronger. As a hitter he has a straight up stance and dives into the ball some. He showed good power by staying through the ball well. Calhoun is a very talented fielder as well especially in the outfield where he threw 89 in the workout and made some very nice catches in the games by getting good jumps. His speed is also very good as he ran a 7.2 60 and a 5.0 to first. His best tool is his arm and he showed he can pitch also. He has a very loose explosive arm and has late life on his fastball that eats right handers up. Calhoun attacks hitters with his 91 mph fastball and his 74 mph slider that has good bite and depth on it. Anthony is a big time prospect.
