Joseph Loftus is a 2008 3B/P with a 6'3'', 200 lb. frame from Savage, MN who attends Academy of Holy Angels. He has a strong, well proportioned athletic build that should continue to add strength. He has the arm strength and hands to play third base well but will have keep working on his footwork and foot quickness as the game speeds up. Loftus's bat is his tool and it should carry him. His swing combines bat speed and length/extension for power and Loftus has lots of leverage at contact. The ball comes off his bat hard and carries far to all fields. Loftus has a good idea how to hit for a player from the far north and showed a very good approach against top level pitching. His bat has a high ceiling. Loftus is a 7.05 runner but plays faster on the bases because of his baserunning instincts. He has a great approach to the game and looks like the type who will maximize his potential. He is an excellent student off the field.

Loftus is a 6-3, 190 lb sophomore infielder from Savage, Minnesota, with a big time athletic body. He projects best at third base in the future. Loftus ran the 60 in 7.65 and threw a solid 81 mph during infield drills. He showed smooth fielding mechanics during the drills with soft hands. At the plate, Loftus has good balance and rhythm to his approach. He has a hand hitch trigger that he'll have to make some adjustments with as the game speeds up but generates very good bat speed and leverage through the zone. Loftus projects plus pull power and showed us his power at the showcase with some long shots to left field. He's going to terrorize Minnesota high school pitchers for the next three years. Loftus also pitched and showed prospect level ability as well. His fastball was 81-83 mph from a low 3/4's release point and a very sharp 71 mph curveball. If Loftus wasn't such a good hitting prospect we'd spend more time talking about him as a primary pitcher with a high ceiling. Either way, Loftus could very well be a national level college recruit if he keeps working hard and developing his talents. Top level follow.
