D.J. LeMahieu is a 2007 right hand hitting shortstop/3rd baseman from Brother Rice HS, residing in Bloomfield Hills, MI. LeMahieu has a long, rangy, athletic build on a plus 6'4" 185 lb. frame that has an awful lot of room to fill out. He is one of the more exciting players to watch and then consider his future because he is so good now, but has so much development ahead of him. LeMahieu was ranked #15 among PG National Top 100 position players and when it is all said and done in a number of years from now, he could be one of the best from what looks to be a stellar '07 high school position player class. Nothing that LeMahieu does takes a lot of effort. At the plate he can hit, simple. His hands are alive and he easily gets his swing underway. His hands fly from their starting position and fly through the hitting zone, accelerating through contact. His feel for hitting is advanced for a young player. LeMahieu not only has natural hitting instincts and ability, he has a technically sound swing, keeping his hands inside the ball and staying long through in the zone. He produces easy power and uses the whole field. He showed the ability to hit all pitches and just looks like he is an offensive monster waiting to happen. LeMahieu has as good a chance to be three hole in the Big Leagues someday as any player in the '07 class. On defense he is a primary shortstop and many already want to move him to 3rd base, but he can stay at short for awhile longer. He goes to and through the ball well and has good feet. His arm is a plus and his release is quick. He will be a plus defensive 3rd baseman, but can also be a solid average shortstop, providing corner position type power. If he gets to be 6'4" 230, then he probably has to move. LeMahieu ran 4.59 home/1st with a respectable 7.15 60 yard time. He is one of the top high school draft prospects and likely has had his pick of a D1 program to attend.

D.J. LeMahieu is a angular 6-3, 180 lb junior shortstop from Michigan who is a bit raw skilled at the moment but who has the physical tools to be a national level prospect. He is unusually tall for a shortstop and has easy gliding actions on defense. Range isn't an issue because LeMahieu got to some balls we thought he had no chance at. His exceptional balance put him in position to make strong throws as well. His arm strength is a plus. LeMahieu's feet really work well on defense and are the reason he should be able to stay at shortstop and excel at that positon. Offensively, LeMahieu shows plus bat speed and raw power potential. He hits out of an open stance and is a rotational spin hitter at present, which he will need to make adjustments to eventually. He does use his hands well at contact and drives through the ball. He has consistently hit well in team events and in showcase games that we've seen, so his approach is working at this level. LeMahieu has outstanding overall tools and is a top level follow. He is also a good student.

DJ LeMahieu is a 2007 SS/P from Brother Rice HS in Bloomfield Hills, MI, with a 6'3'', 180 lb. frame. He has a lean and athletic build that should gain plenty of strength but remain well proportioned. LeMahieu ran the 60 in 7.29 and threw 82 mph during infield drills. He has excellent infield actions with very smooth and balanced movements to the ball. He has a quick release on his throws and can throw from different arm angles without handicap. His arm strength is above average. LeMahieu can make all the plays at shortstop and projects to stay at that position for a long time into the future. Offensively, LaMahieu has an open, upright stance and a narrow base. He has good rhythm into the ball and very good bat speed. He tends to pull of the ball occasionally but showed nice bat head skills and made consistent hard contact. LeMahieu has present gap to gap power that should grow into home run power as he matures. He is a top level national follow who will get plenty of attention from the pro scouts by the end of high school. He is a good student off the field.
