LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Matt Miller is a 2007 right hand pitcher from North Florida Christian HS, residing in Tallahassee, FL. He has an average, athletic type build on his a 6'0" 180 lb. frame that still yet has some room to fill out. Miller has a nice feel for pitching and should continue to evolve into a very complete pitcher and was ranked #74 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. He pitches from an over the top slot, with a short backside arm action. His delivery is nice and simple, maintaining good balance and on line direction. The tempo and rhythm of his delivery is also quite good, allowing him to command his stuff. His fastball was up to 88 mph and sat in the 85-87 mph range. With that short arm action, Miller's fastball seemed better than the gun readings. The hitters were reacting to a sneaky fast fastball that also had some sink. Miller's best pitch was his slippery, quick breaking curveball. He has good velocity on that pitch and can go to it for outs or strikes. With 74-76 mph velocity on his curveball, Miller has a chance to develop that pitch into a well above average offering. He also did a nice job of using his 70-72 mph change-up that he kept down in the zone. In all, Miller has a very solid and usable three pitch mix and understands what to do with all his pitches. He did not appear overly concerned with velocity, which is a very good indication that Miller trusts his stuff and understands his abilities. He has a chance to become the type of pitcher that is a master of what he does and gives a consistent performance time and time again. He is a quality D1 prospect that will have to perform at a high level to earn his professional opportunity in a few years.
