Murphy is a very strong, physically mature right hander who is just scratching the surface of his physical potential. He has a very quick and loose arm and threw an easy 87-89 mph fastball in Ft Myers. But Murphy has very strong hips and he gets very little energy out of them in his delivery. It’s easy to see him as a consistent low 90’s power pitcher in the future when he starts incorporating his lower half. Murphy’s 74-77 mph curveball flashed good spin on occasion but he’s inconsistent on his release point on this pitch. We wouldn’t be surprised if Murphy doesn’t get a chance to hit at the college level, too. He has very good bat speed and some serious power potential. He also shows good athletic ability. Brian is an excellent student who has signed to attend Wake Forest. Scouts need to get a good look, this spring, at this broad shouldered RHP.

Murphy is a pitcher and an outfielder who did not throw from the outfield the first day so he could pitch at full strength. As a pitcher he was very impressive. He is a prospect on the mound. He has a good looking 6 foot 2 frame with a good strong delivery and showed 2 good pitches. His fastball was 84-87 and he touched 88 mph. He knows how to pitch, has an attacking mentality and mixed in a 74-79 mph slider that was nearly unhittable. He had good movement on the fastball and got 9 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. He runs well as an outfielder and can hit too. We know he has arm strength and with his bat he makes for a good 2-way prospect. He showed good bat-speed, a pretty swing and hit a few balls more than 380 feet in BP to center field. He took the same swing in the game and hit live pitching including a Home Run. He can get it done on both sides of the ball and is a prospect to follow. Excellent student.
