2005 California Top Prospect Showcase
Jonathan Abramson is a 2006 RHP from Menlo-Atherton HS, residing in Atherton, CA, with a 6'3", 170 lb. frame. Abramson was named to the Top Prospect Team. He has a long and loose build with thin ankles and long levers. Abramson is very projectable in terms of both his body and arm. He pitches from a high 3/4 slot with a quick and loose arm. He seems to understand how to use his front side for stability but has an aggressive finish and tends to fall to the first base side of the mound. His fastball (83-86) has good sink action and occasionally will ride it up and in on the arm side. Abramson not ony has a projectable fastball, but he already understands how to pitch with it, especially against right hand hitters. He throws a slurve type breaker (68-72) and though it has decent spin and he throws it aggressively, it is a pitch that still needs to be cleaned up. The break takes place too early. When he can hold his front side in longer and get more extension toward the plate, the action and quality of his breaking ball will significantly increase. Abramson also flashes feel of the change-up (70). He pitches aggressively, has a very projectable body and arm, making him a strong prospect for the spring signing period. He is also likely to draw draft and follow consideration.
