2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Chad Nading is a 2006 RHP with a 6'5'', 210 lb. frame from Anchorage, AK, who attends East Anchorage HS. He has the type of lean, athletic build that you look for in a young pitching prospect. He has a tall delivery and a high 3/4's release point. Nading opens early on his pitches and has an upper body rotational throwing action. His fastball was steady in the 84-86 mph range, topping out at 87 mph, and had some tailing life. He had the same type of tailing action and sink on his change up but lowered his release point a bit to get it. Nading's curveball was 71 mph and sharp at times with a good 11/5 break. Nading has good arm speed and nice projectability if he can make some mechanical adjustments. You also have to consider that he's from Alaska and was probably throwing outside in April for the first time in a while. Nading also showed some ability with the bat. He has a good looking swing and shows bat speed and power potential. The ball jumps off his bat hard, especially when he attacks inside pitches.
