He popped a 1.96 in the workout and threw 80mph. He uses an open stance at the plate with a high hand set. Hernandez has strength in his swing with gap to gap power. He has an easy swing that creates good bat speed. He even runs pretty good. He projects well and will be fun to watch develop over the next two years as he is only a 2010. Defensively, Hernandez good agility behind the plate which helps him move and slide to block balls in the dirt. He has quick feet and transfers on his throws down to second base. He has raw arm strength and clean actions behind the dish. Hernandez is a good receiver and has very good all-around catching skills. At the plate, Hernandez starts with an open stance and high hands. He has an Albert Pujols type look in the box with his hand set and approach. Hernandez swings on a line drive path and really centers the ball up well. He has good raw power presently and has even more power potential in there as he gets stronger and refines his swing. Hernandez can really hit and is a top flight defensive catcher. He is a high level follow and is a very good student.

Jake Hernandez is a 2010 C/3B/1B/OF with a 6'1'', 170 lb. frame from Rancho Cucamonga CA, who attends Los Osos HS. Jake has a lean athletic build and showed a very good all-around set of tools. At the plate Jake has an aggressive approach with good balance in his swing. He shows very good bat speed for his age and does a good job of clearing his hips through the ball. Jake shows a line-drive swing plane and the ball jumps off his bat. Behind the plate Jake is a very good receiver that is light on his feet. He is athletic with a solid transfer and just needs to shorten up his arm action a little bit. Jake is a good student with very good tools at the plate and should be a highest-level college prospect if his game progresses throughout high school.
