Austin Coleman is a 2007 3B/P/UTL from Granite Hills HS, residing in El Cajon, CA, with a 6'1" 194 lb. frame. Coleman was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. He has an athletic body with strength. Coleman is well-proportioned with a good baseball body. At the plate he starts with a deep hand set. He has quiet feet and good balance. Coleman gets to and through the ball well with his pull side approach. There is some decent bat speed and on the pull side he showed some power. Coleman did a nice job of hitting mistakes and hitting the well. Defensively he showed good lateral agility in his area at 3B. Simply makes plays with a decent approach, though he is still somewhat raw with the glove. On the mound he pitched from an over the top slot with a two piece action on the backside. Coleman has good body control and some rhythm in his delivery. His 79-82 mph FB had some heavy action and good arm side run. His 62-65 mph CB had loose spin and he tended to overthrow it. Coleman also mixed in a change-up. Pitching is a secondary position for him. He is a solid follow for small-mid level D1 programs because there is some physical upside with the bat.
