Corey Black is a 2009 MIF/P/C/OF with a 5'10'', 150 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Mission Bay HS. Black was perhaps the most enjoyable player to watch perform at the showcase. He was selected as a Top Prospect and showed not only a high level ability no matter where he was on the field, but also an approach to the game that good baseball people are drawn to. He has a strong, wiry body type that is far from developed. Black's arm is lively and whippy, with arm strength that plays well in the outfield, infield, on the mound and behind the plate. Black is a ballplayer that lives to play the game all day. He played just about every position on the field and played all of them in an above average manner. Just wind him up and watch him go. Offensively he showed the instincts of a hitter, lashing line drives to all fields. He has good bat speed and an aggressive nature. Behind the plate he showed quickness and projectable catch/throw skills. On the mound he was 83-86 mph with some life and solid secondary stuff. It is pretty rare to see a young player with Black's level of ability at all the positions on the field. He is a winner and the kind of player that good baseball teams always seem to have.
