Michael Vargas is a 2008 OF/IF with a 5'10'', 175 lb. frame from Hawthorne, NJ who attends Don Bosco Prep. He has a compact, live body with some present strength. Vargas' top present tool is his speed. He's a 6.52 runner with very good first step quickness that he uses both defensively and on the bases. Vargas is a primary outfielder and looked good on defense with his speed and arm strength, but he also plays some second base and the pro scouts are likely going to be much more interested in him at that position. He looked very good defensively in the infield in the short look we had. Offensively, Vargas hits out of a balanced stance with a simple, compact swing. He has the right idea with his swing of what his tools are; make line drive contact to all fields and use his speed and quickness. Right now Vargas has timing/trigger issues with high velocity pitching, as he starts with high hands and very little load and his late preparation puts him behind against the best pitchers. He's physically capable of making adjustments as he sees better competition. Vargas is a good student and likes to play.

Michael Vargas is a 2008 OF/IF with a 5'10'', 165 lb. frame from Hawthorne NJ, who attends Don Bosco Prep. Named to Top Prospect Team. Vargas has a live athletic body with a nice build. Vargas has good straight line 60 speed (6.71) which transfers over to his range defensively and on the the basepaths. Defensively, he is light on his feet in the outfield and has good actions. His arm works well and he has good arm strength. At the plate, Vargas starts with a slightly open stance with a narrow base. He starts upright and has a quiet approach in the box. Vargas has leverage at contact and generates good bat speed in his swing. He swings on a line drive path and has some present power with more power potential in there. He is a good baserunner with good burst of speed on the bases. Vargas has good tools to develop and is a good student.

Michael Vargas is a 2008 SS/OF from Don Bosco Prep in Hawthorne, New Jersey, with a solid and lean 5'10"/165 pound frame. Michael hits from a relaxed stance with high elbows. He has a nice approach at the plate and is a solid hitter. Vargas has good, quick hands in the infield. He moves well and has a solid arm at 77 mph. Michael moves well in the outfield also. He has good arm speed and good carry at 85 mph. Vargas is a good 2008 prospect.
