Simple turn and throw delivery, falls off on release, 3/4's angle. Fast arm, tends to throw harder warming up/from stretch with less effort, touched 90 mph, flashed quality CB spin, very good CB velo, slurve type break, developing change up. Kevin Johnson is a 2009 RHP with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Midlothian IL, who attends Mt. Carmel HS. He has a young build with very good projection for the future. Johnson has a very loose arm that works effortlessly. He throws from a balanced directional delivery with some effort at release that he really doesn't need given his arm looseness and speed. His release point will vary between standard extended 3/4's and mid 3/4's, dropping down especially on his change up. Johnson's fastball was 83-86 mph with good running and boring action, he also threw some 2-seamers with good action it looked like at 81-83 mph. Johnson's curveball flashed good spin at a hard 73 mph but he was inconsistent with the release. There are lots of inconsistencies in Johnson's approach and mechanics but he's very young and can work through these. He has a high ceiling arm, though, and could really develop as he fills out and gets strong. Follow him closely. Johnson is also a good student.
