Chris Hernandez is a 2007 LHP with a 6'3'', 220 lb. frame from Pembroke Pines, FL who attends Pace HS. He has a strong, mature body that's filled out over the last year. Hernandez is extremely polished, he has command of the location and break on a variety of different pitches. His best pitch is an 80-82 mph slider that can be late and sharp at times. He'll also cut his fastball at 84 mph as a different look off his 87-88 mph fastball. Hernandez' change up is an advanced pitch that he can make move in different directions at 75-77 mph. He'll also mix in a 72-74 mph curveball but this is more a show pitch right now without the slider's sharpness. Hernandez is very successful at the HS level and is going to be very successful at the college level as well. In fact, he's going to be a winner at any level.

Chris Hernandez is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Pace HS, residing in Pembroke Pines, FL. Hernandez has a long, lean, athletic build and a very nice looking 6'2" 185 lb. frame. He looks the part of a polished lefty on the mound and he pitches that way too. Hernandez has long been known of and always been a pretty consistent pitcher. He pitched well in Fayetteville and was ranked #53 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. Hernandez pitches from a high 3/4 slot and has a very clean arm action, throughout his arm arc. On the backside he makes a clean circle and on the front side he gets to nice extension. His effort is easy and he repeats his simple delivery quite well. It is apparent that Hernandez understands and trusts his ability and stuff. He does not ever appear to be trying to more than he is capable of and competes well pitch to pitch. Hernandez showed a fastball that was in the 85-88 mph range and he demonstrated good command to both sides of the plate, with good angle through the zone. There is an expectation that he will gain more velocity in the future and it is a resonable expectation, perhaps 3-4 more mph. He shows two different breaking balls, one a 74-76 mph curveball and the other is a 78-80 mph slider. He has command of both and both have very good spin. It is possible that Hernandez is simply changing the shape or changing speeds with one breaking ball, but they come out looking a bit different. He can pitch with all his offerings, including a 78 mph change-up he throws with very nice arm action. One thing that Hernandez does better than many young pitchers is pitch to contact. He stays away from the fat part of the plate and changes speeds, keeping hitters feeling like they can hit him, but not giving them exactly what they are looking for. In some respects he is a classic feel type lefty. He is a strong D1 prospect and if he does ever take that next velocity leap, he could elevate into a strong pro prosect this spring.

Chris Hernandez is a 6'1" 180 pound 2007 left handed pitcher and first baseman from Pace High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida who was named to the Top Prospect Team. He has a slender build with good athleticism who looks taller than his listed height. Chris throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and uses a drop and drive delivery. He has a fluid arm action and throws strikes with all of his pitches. His fastball cuts occasionally at 83 mph. He throws a big 2/8 curveball with good depth at 75 mph. His change up at 76 mph is a developing pitch. Hernandez hits with an open stance and is very balanced. He keeps his weight back very well and is short to the ball with a flat swing. He has some bat speed and turns on the ball well, which is where he has most of his power. Chris has a very projectable body and is also an excellent student with a 4.1 gpa.

Hernandez is a sophomore left handed pitcher from south Florida who has a chance to be one of the better pitching prospects in his class. He is 6-1, 190 with a very athletic and projectable frame. Hernandez just looks and carries himself like a ball player. We’ve seen Hernandez pitch in the past and he looked like he was in cruise control in Fort Myers, throwing mostly fastballs over 3 innings of work, mostly at 83 mph. Hernandez gets good arm side running action on his fastball and puts it where he wants to. His 67 mph curveball and 73 mph change up are advanced pitches. Struck out 7 out of 10 hitters by location and life on his fastball. Hernandez’s arm speed, smooth pitching mechanics and projectable body paint him as a future 90+ hurler. Hernandez is also a legit hitting prospect who has very good present power with a pull/loft approach. Hernandez is also a top notch student off the field.
