Michael Basil is a 2009 SS/3B/OF with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame from Cincinnati OH, who attends St. Xavier. Basil has a medium sized frame with a thin lean build. Defensively, Basil showed clean defensive actions with a good idea how to play defense. He has good footwork to the ball and showed good body control making plays on the run. Basil has good hands and throws with a short arm stroke across the diamond. At the plate, Basil starts with a medium width stance and waits for the pitch with a bat waggle. His hands get started late at times as a result but he is still able to generate bat speed through his swing. He maintains good balance through his swing and has leverage at contact. Basil looks to keep his hands inside the baseball and has good hand strength at contact. He has present gap to gap pop with more power potential in there as he gets consistent with his timing and his body matures.
