Michael Lopez is a 2007 C/3B with a 5'10'', 185 lb. frame from Boynton Beach FL, who attends Atlantic Community HS. He has a compact build with very good present strength. He's a polished defensive player with very good arm strength and quick, soft hands receiving the ball. Lopez threw 77 mph during catching drills with a best pop time of 1.94. He should have no trouble with his defense at the college level. Offensively, Lopez uses his strong hands and upper body well to hit. He has little or no lower half turn and has a short, line drive swing that results in very consistent line drive contact. Lopez isn't going to hit many home runs with this approach or leg out many doubles with his speed, but he should hit for a high average with a high contact approach. Lopez is an excellent student with high level academic ambitions. His skills play very well at the type of schools is looking to attend.
