Ryan McWhirter is a 2008 1B/OF/C with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Millbrae CA, who attends St. Ignatius College Prep. He has a long, lean, greyhound type of build that is very projectable. McWhirter looks like he is really going to hit someday. His hands work well and he has an easy swing that produces good bat speed. His swing is flat and the ball spins well off the bat, resulting in line drive type carry. In time the home runs should start to come. His bat, like his body, is quite projectable and he looks to be just scratching the surface. Defensively McWhirter fits best at 1st base. He picks the low throws well and has good hands. His footwork is pretty solid too. He plays the defensive half of the game with good energy and enjoys being on the field. McWhirter is a strong student with a lot of baseball growth and development ahead of him. He comes from an athletic family.

Ryan McWhirter is a 2008 left hand hitting first baseman/outfielder from Saint Ignatius College Prep, residing in Millbrae, CA. He has a 6'2" 180 lb. frame and a long, lean, athletic body type that projects easily. His legs are long and his waist is high. McWhirter is a very interesting offensive player, one who has a high ceiling but is still quite a bit away from reaching that ceiling. He has plus bat speed and a very flat swing plane that looks like it will produce line drive after line drive in the near future. His hands drop easily and comfortably into an excellent pre-pitch hitting slot. McWhirter does a very nice job of letting his hands lead the swing, allowing the barrel to square up at contact, as his body stays behind the ball. Presently his swing could be defined as inside out, which bodes well for his ability to his with power to all fields in time, as he continues to develop strength. Presently he is a spray line drive hitter, with his power still a few years out. McWhirter is going to hit, and hit a lot. Defensively his hands and feet are adequate for 1B. His energy for playing defense is good, evidenced by a very nice diving play along the right field line in one game. Left field and 1st base would appear to be his best defensive options. McWhirter's bat is the tool that will play at the college level and possibly beyond.
