Benjamin Luderer is a 2008 right hand hitting catcher from Don Bosco Prep, residing in Riverdale, NJ. He has a 5'11" 195 lb. frame and a strong, physical body with a powerfully built lower half. He looks like he is going to be durable and can handle the rigors of the position. Luderer has one of the most desired traits of young catchers... the ability to hit for power. His BP results were impressive as he left the yard at cavernous Anteater Ballpark. His swing is loose and lively and the ball jumps off his bat well. Luderer's swing is very handsy and he does have strong hands. He swings with intent to hit the ball hard each time and at times his feet are unsteady, but he has the knack for getting his hands to the ball. His power numbers likely are going to be a tradeoff for some average. Behind the plate Luderer displayed good hands, quick feet and plus footwork. He is a good catch/throw prospectd and showed it with workout pop times in the 1.95-2.00 range. His game times rose to around 2.20 but his throws were accurate. The ability and tools certainly are there. Luderer also showed the ability to block/control, and presented a good target to throw to. His skill set should have the D1 programs following him next summer and he has a chance to develop into a pro prospect by June 2008.
