Hunter Pate is a 2008 3B/P/1B with a 6'0'', 190 lb. frame from Davidson, NC, who attends Norwest Cabarrus HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team. Pate has a nice frame with present strength. Defensively he has good footwork and moves well for his size at the hot corner. He has good actions with solid hands and a playable arm across the diamond. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a wide base and gets great leverage in his swing at the point of contact. Pate is a power hitter with very good raw power and more to come. He takes an aggressive stride and attacks the ball looking to drive the ball on every pitch. Pate has good bat speed and keeps his hands inside the ball. He projects to be a middle of the order hitter at the next level. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with motion in his delivery. His fastball topped out at 77 mph, and he mixed in a 66 mph curveball with slurve action. His bat makes him a must follow, and he is a good student as well.
