2019 Northwest Prospect Showcase
Mitchel Matson is a 2020 RHP/1B with a 6-4 185 lb. frame from Colbert, WA who attends Mt Spokane. Tall frame with long limbs and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher who worked exclusively from the stretch. Balanced leg lift and stayed balanced at gather. Utilized an extended string with drop and drive actions to the plate. Medium arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly producing arm side run in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 83 mph. Slider showed 10/4 shape with solid spin and good sweep when maintaining arm speed through extension. Showed good feel for the zone and looked to locate to the edges. Also worked defensively from the infield showing high energy footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels out front and released from a three-quarters slot. Topped at 79 mph showing developing accuracy to the bag. Right handed hitter with a spread, open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Stays on back side throughout and worked to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with an extended line drive barrel plane. Looks to connect with baseball out front while employing a mid field approach. Flashed some jump off the barrel to the gaps when squared. Named to the 2019 Northwest Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
