Marquis Riley is a 2008 2B/SS with a 5'11'', 185 lb. frame from Efland, NC who attends Orange HS. He has an athletic build with good present strength. Riley is a very good looking young hitter and his bat projects well at the next level. He hits from a tall stance with a calm load and explodes his hands to the ball well. His hands are quick and he has next level bat speed. Riley hit solid line drives to all fields and flashed some gap to gap power. He has some upside with the bat and hits with the type of confidence that you like to see in a young hitter. We're told he is a very successful hitter at the high school level in North Carolina. Riley is a 7.20 runner but plays faster than that on the field. His defensive position will be a bit of an enigma to evaluators. He had absolutely no arm strength in drills and looked injured with a stiff and inflexible arm action from shortstop. Playing second base, Riley threw much better with a lower release point and his athleticism was really apparent when he had to make plays on the run. With continued work he can probably play second base at the college level but his bat will play anywhere. Riley played hard and had ball player type make up on the field.
