2005 South Underclass Showcase
Gambill is a 5-7, 170 lb left handed hitting second baseman from Texas with a strong, mature body. He's a very good runner with 6.87 speed in the 60 and very good base running instincts. Gambill threw 75 mph during infield drills and had easy actions on defense during the games. He makes the backhand play well. Gambill's strength enables him to generate bat speed and drive the ball hard. He has a spread stance and uses his hands well in his swing. A couple of balls really jumped off Gambill's bat and he could develop some gap power in the future, especially with metal. Gambill also pitched twice at the showcase. He has a minimum effort delivery with a compact arm action and did a good job throwing strikes. Gambill's fastball topped out at 79 mph and he threw a 66 mph curveball for strikes whenever he wanted. Gambil is a good student. Named to the Top Prospect Game.
