Cody Scarpetta is a 2007 RHP with a 6'3'', 220 lb. frame from Rockford IL, who attends Guilford HS. He has a strong and well developed power pitcher's build and has an outstanding job of remaking his body over the past two years. Scarpetta flashed upper round form in Jupiter in October and solidified that at this event. He has a calm delivery with a quick, compact arm action that hides the ball from the hitter and the ball comes out of his hand effortlessly. He repeats his delivery well and lets his arm work for him. Scarpetta's fastball was up to 94 mph, he threw a lot of 93's and never threw a pitch under 90 mph. His fastball is pretty straight except when low, when it has some heavy boring action. Scarpetta's curveball shows signs of being a plus pitch, it's 76 mph with a hard and sharp 11/5 type of break. His arm speed on his change up is good. Things are coming together quickly for Scarpetta, he has solid pitching mechanics, good command, a strong build and three present professional level pitches. He's a good student signed with Creighton but will get lots of exposure to the scouts this spring.

Cody Scarpetta is a 6-2, 220 lb junior right handed pitcher from Illinois. He has a present strong body but could use some improvement on his conditioning. Scarpetta has a very good arm and the chance to keep improving and be a first rate power pitcher. His fastball topped out at 90 mph and he was pretty steady at 88 mph and above. His arm is loose and easy and he doesn't throw with much effort. His stuff and command were a bit better from the stretch when his balance and delivery were more sound. Another impressive thing about Scarpetta was his variety of pitches. He turned over a fastball at 81-83 that was a nice pitch. He threw two breaking balls, one a 77 mph slider that was very sharp at times and the other a 70 mph curveball that wasn't as tight. Scarpetta also threw a 70 mph change up. He looks like a young pitcher who understands how to change speeds and make the ball spin or move, which is pretty unusual in a power pitcher. Scarpetta is also a very good one spot athlete who can play solid defense at third base and swing the bat with some power. He has very quick hands at the plate and the ball jumps off his bat. If he improved his quickness he could become a legit third base prospect. Scarpetta is also a solid student. Very good follow.
