1B Aaron Alcock: One of the Perfect Game scouts called Alcock "Jim Thome Jr.", which is a bit of hyperbole but is descriptive about what Alcock does on the baseball field. That is, he hits, and hits it hard and far consistently, from the left side of the plate. Alcock doesn’t possess a ton of natural athletic ability, although he’s fine around the first base bag, but put a bat in his hands and he gets much smoother and quicker. Alcock has a patient, comfortable approach at the plate and showed us the ability to both turn on the ball and hit with power to right field and to wait back and line balls up the middle. It looks like he has above average hand strength with a wood bat. This young man can hit at the college level and be a run producer.

Alcock is a C/1B who profiles best as a 1B at the next level. He does a nice job of catching, but he will need to throw a bit better and improve his technique for the highest levels of college baseball. He is a high level player because of the bat. This kid can hit and he can hit with wood bat power from the left side. He creates serious bat speed and he is aggressive. The ball jumps off his bat! Alcock will hit the long ball at the next level and he was one of the top power hitting prospects in this showcase. Aaron is an excellent student.

Alcock showed one of the biggest bats in the Midwest Showcase. He is a 5 foot 11 catcher with a strong 190 pound build and a powerful left-handed swing. Defensively he resembles more of a power hitting first baseman who we think would make the full-time transition to first nicely. His glove will play there at the next level and his bat will be noticed against good pitching. There is little question his bat is his best tool and he even showed opposite field power in a game. One shot was 93 mph off his bat.
