Hudson is a 6-0, 170 lb outfielder/right handed pitcher from North Carolina with a medium proportioned athletic build. He ran 7.14 in the 60 and showed very good arm strength from the outfield at 85 mph. Hudson has the physical tools to be a very good defensive outfielder. At the plate, Hudson hits from a slightly closed stance with a good load and good rhythm through the ball. He has a line drive swing plane and some bat speed. Hudson was right on the ball during batting practice and the games and had a hit in each showcase game. He lacks the strength to really drive the ball with wood right now but everything else is in place for him to be a successful hitter at the next level. Hudson also pitched, showing a minimum effort rotational delivery with an 80-82 mph fastball and a fairly sharp 69 mph curveball. We've seen Hudson throw harder from the mound in the past and wouldn't be surprised to see him as a mid-80's hurler on a regular basis when he gains strength. Hudson is also a good student.

Cole Hudson is a 5'11" athlete from Siler City, North Carolina, with good present tools for his size and age (2006). He worked out both in the outfield and infield during workouts, and was much more able to use his tools in the outfield. Hudson showed excellent arm strength and carry from the outfield, reaching 85 mph with good accuracy. He also has good speed at 7.09 and should be comfortable in centerfield. At the plate, Hudson had a slight knee lift trigger with a quick, short rotational swing that generated impressive bat speed for a 155 lb. junior. Hudson pulls the ball aggressively and makes very consistent hard contact. He had a nice double over the left fielder’s head on a change up and had a number of other sharp game line drives. Hudson also took a turn on the mound and his arm strength and arm mechanics didn’t quite translate, as he threw 81-82 mph with some effort. Overall, Hudson is a nice prospect who should keep improving as he adds strength.
