Patrick Lala is a JC RHP with a 6'2'', 195 lb. frame from Marion, IA who attends Kirkwood CC. Broad shouldered athletic build. Hip turn/leg raise delivery, fast paced with effort, didn't repeat well. Very fast arm, 3/4's slot, FB to 92 mph, mostly 90, mostly straight. Threw both CB and SL, slider was much better pitch, flashes hard biting action at 80 mph, lacked feel for CB. Didn't see change. Reliever profile with power FB/SL combination. Has been up to 95 this winter. Must fine tune delivery/command, should get lots of pro interest this spring.

Patrick Lala is a 2008 RHP/IF with a 6'2'', 165 lb. frame from Marion, IA who attends Marion HS. He has an athletic build with good upper body strength and more to come. Lala throws from a simple directional delivery and tends to open early towards the plate. His elbow was coming through low on his delivery, which looked like it was causing Lala some problems. His fastball was mostly 84 mph and topped out at 85 mph with some cutting action. The low elbow on release hindered his curveball spin and his breaking ball was soft and rolling at 66 mph. We didn't see a change up. Lala has thrown in to the upper 80's in the past and he needs to get his arm up and extended before he'll be back to that point. Lala is a very good overall athlete who runs very well (6.76) and has some bat speed at the plate. He is a very good student.

Patrick Lala is a 2008 RHP/MIF with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Marion, Iowa, who attends Marion High School. Lala has an athletic and lean frame that is very projectable. On the mound he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a loose and easy arm. Lala has a balanced delivery with solid lower body mechanics. He throws downhill well and he throws strikes. Lala has good arm speed that produces a fastball that topped out at 87 mph, and he projects to throw harder in the near future. Defensively he has good range in the middle of the diamond and made some solid plays in game action. At the plate he keeps his weight back well showing balance and leverage. He has quiet hands in his set-up, and has bat speed through the hitting zone. He is a pull hitter with projectable pop. Once on the bases Lala shows speed and instincts. He also ran a 6.88 sixty. Lala is a two-way talent that is a must follow for 2008. He is a good student as well.

Patrick Lala is a 2008 RHP/MIF with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Marion IA, who attends Marion HS. He has a tall, thin build with narrow shoulders and hips. Lala throws from a simple body turn delivery with some early drift to the plate. His arm action is compact and very fast, with a tight 3/4's release and Lala hides the ball from the hitters well. His fastball was 86-88 mph, touching 89, with some late life when it was low. Lala's curveball velocity was excellent at 76-79 mph; he sometimes overthrew his breaking ball but when he was smooth and out front with it the spin hwas hard and the break sharp at a 11/5 angle. Any 16 year old who can throw a 79 mph true curveball is going to gain fastball velocity and it wouldn't be surprising to see Lala throwing in the low 90's very soon. We didn't see a change up. Lala also showed very good hitting ability. He has an aggressive swing and is frequently out front, but he has present bat speed and the ball came off his bat hard. Lala is a very good follow with some high ceiling tools. He is also a very good student off the field.
