2007 California Underclass Showcase
Mike Massari is a 2008 RHP/2B/OF with a 5'10'', 155 lb. frame from Palmdale, CA who attends Quartz Hill HS. He has a small to medium middle infielder's frame and some wiry strength. Massari throws from a full wind up with good coil in back and good pace through release. His arm action is long with a two-piece takeaway in back and good extension out in front from a high 3/4's release. Massari threw his fastball 80-82 mph with some sinking action. His curveball was 66 mph with good late action to it. Massari has very good pitchability and was able to move his pitches in and out while changing speeds and keeping hitters off balance, including backdooring his curveball to left handed hitters. He retired all nice hitters he faced at the showcase, striking out five. Massari also showed some skills as a position player. He has nice actions in the middle infield, with quick feet and a quick release. At the plate, Massari has a quiet approach with a line drive swing plane and good use of his hands to move the ball around the field. He isn't very projectable overall but has mature skills and is a gamer from the looks of it. Massari is also a very good student.
