Jomel Torres is a 2008 1B/P/OF with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame from Chula Vista, CA who attends Eastlake HS. He has a mature build with some thickness and good strength. What Torres is is a natural hitter who consistently drives the ball hard against all types of pitching. He has a controlled power stroke with some lift at the end and consistently squares up hard on the ball to all fields. Torres has very good natural timing and balance in the box and never appears to take a bad swing or be fooled by a pitch. It seems as if he's hitting about .600 the past two years in PG and WWBA events. It's hard to imagine Torres not hitting at all levels given his strength, approach and skills. Defensively, Torres is an agile first baseman with good feet and soft hands who will be an asset despite his average height. Torres also throws in the mid-80's off the mound. He's an old school type player player who plays the game the right way as well.

Jomel Torres is a 2008 1B/P/OF with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame from Chula Vista, CA, who attends Eastlake HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team. Torres has present strength in his body. Defensively Torres has soft hands at first base with nice footwork around the bag. He is smooth defensively, and also has the ability to play the outfield as well. At the plate he is a left handed hitter with plus raw power. Torres has a very quick bat and gets leverage at the point of contact allowing him to show easy power to all fields. He stays balanced through his aggressive, yet controlled, swing. He makes consistently hard contact and the ball jumps off his bat. He is a middle of the order hitter that should drive in runs at the next level. Torres has a great attitude on the field, and he is an outstanding student that should make him a must follow for all Div I schools and pro clubs.

Jomel Torres is a 2008 1B/LHP/OF with a 6'0'', 205 lb. frame from Chula Vista, CA, who attends Eastlake HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. He has present strength in his body. Torres put on a power hitting show during game action hitting 2 big HRs. He has a quick bat with a slight lift in his swing plane helping to generate good raw power. He is still short and quick to the ball and the ball jumps off his bat at contact. He has easy power with more to come in the future. His power bat and short stroke should allow him to be a middle of the order run producer at the next level. For a power hitter, he shows great patience, and he consistently centers the ball. Defensively he has solid body control around the first base bag. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with solid present velocity. His fastball topped out at 85 mph, and he mixed in a 2 to 7 curveball with good break. Torres uses his lower half well in his delivery, and looks like a two-way prospect. However, his power bat could be special. He is also an excellent student.
