RHP Cody Burns (Glendale, AZ): Burns might have been feeling the short term effects from a long and busy spring. He was 10-1 with 4 shutouts and 110 K’s, with a 0.96 ERA this high school season. Burns was 85-88 mph for 2 innings in Cedar Rapids with a 77 mph change up and a 73 mph curveball that had good tilt. He knows how to pitch and mix his pitches and throws quality strikes. We’ve been told he was 89-91, top 93, much of the spring and that’s what we’ve seen in the past as well. Cory can really pitch and has committed to the U of Arizona. He could create serious draft interest, but he might be worth a small fortune after a good career at Arizona.

Cory Burns is a 2005 right handed pitcher from Glendale Arizona with a nice pitchers body at 6 ft. 1 - 190 pounds. He pitches from a high 3/4 slot with a hip/backturn delivery. He has a quick short arm stroke with good arm speed and he throws downhill. His fastball topped out at 92 mph with good life. He has a sharp late breaking 11-5 curveball at 69-72 mph. He throws a good change that is a very effective against left-handed hitters at 76-77 mph. He was very aggressive going after hitters and he maintained his stuff well through all three innings. He is a hard-working kid with a good pitchers mindset.. Cory is a good student who signed early with Arizona. He could create some very serious draft interest.

Cory Burns is a solidly built 6'1/185 RHP from Scottsdale, AZ. He threw consistently high 80s touching 91 in Tropicana. His breaking ball shows late sharp bite. He has a deceptive change up with good movement. Shows very good mound presence and good command of three pitches. His mechanics are fluid and solid, he's a very good pitching package. He can pitch at any college in America and should create serious draft interest. Cory is an excellent student.

WP - Cory Burns is a 2005 RHP from Scottsdale, AZ. We've seen Burns before and he showed his usual 87-90mph fastball with a good curve. He comes from a high 3/4 angle and gets a good downward plane to the plate. He has a strong 6 foot build that generated good arm-speed with an easy finish. He's an athlete on the hill and even showed good actions at 3B with some power in the bat and throwing the ball at 89 mph across the diamond. He was an easy selection to Tropicana and we think he will get even stronger and be showing low 90's velocity with command in the near future.

Listed as a primary position pitcher, Burns caught our attention with the glove as an infielder and the bat in BP. He showed good smooth and easy actions at shortstop as he threw 86 mph across the diamond. And his quick bat with good leverage drove the ball as good as many of the top hitters. So we figured he would be a good 2005 pitcher and he was. Still at 15 years old, Burns showed a nice arm from the hill with a lively 84-86 mph fastball that ran in on batters hands. His curveball was clocked at 65 with flashes of a good spin but the arm is advanced for his age and we think he will be a good player to follow for 2005. He showed good overall mechanics and a lose arm with late tailing action on the fastball. It is the type of arm that ends up being dominant. Watch him ! Good student.
