Richard Martin is a 2007 RHP/C with a 5'11'', 175 lb. frame from La Habra CA, who attends La Habra HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Martin is pretty rangy and has a broad upper body that will hold future strength gains well. He showed an excellent feel for pitching. He pitches from a high 3/4 slot and has a loose, easy arm, and pitches with low effort. His delivery is simple and has some rhythm, showing good body control. As he continues to get stronger, his velocity is likely to come on. Martin's fastball topped at 84 mph and sat in the 81-83 range, though it is pretty sneaky due to good frontside extension. He throws it with good down angle and gets some late life on the heater. Martin's curveball is his best pitch. He thows it with good spin and feel, with 11/5 shape. The 74 mph velocity of his curveball is a good indication that he may have a future out-pitch in his arsenal, as he may be able to get it around 80 in the coming years. Martin has nice mound presence and pitches with moxy. He has pitchability and threw strikes with all his pitches. Martin is a solid student and a good pitcher, with a realistic chance to continue to gain velocity as he physically matures.
