Courtney Morgan is a 2007 right hand hitting middle infielder from Mission Bay HS, residing in San Diego, CA. He has a lean, average athletic body type on his 5'11" 170 lb. frame. From one event to the next, Morgan has been developing as well as any player. He keeps getting better and better. Not particularly explosive or spectacular, but a well-rounded and steady player. He ranked #71 among PG National Top 100 position players. At the plate he hits from a square stance and has a quiet presence at the plate. Morgan really does have a plus hitting approach. He is efficient and uses the whole field, handling all pitches. He hits line drives and hard ground balls, occasionally getting a ball into the gaps. He stays inside the ball and is very consistent with his swing. Morgan always looked relaxed at the plate, even facing the big time arms at PG National, something that many of the toolsy players did not do. He picks up the ball well out of the pitcher's hand and has good timing. More importantly, Morgan simply stays within himself and adoes not try to do anything offensively he is not capable of. He seems to have a mastery of what his abilities are and plays the game within those abilities. He will make an excellent two-hole hitter and in time may even move toward the three hole during his college career. In the field Morgan shows excellent feel for playing defense. He takes good angles the ball and showed that he can play shortstop, 2nd or 3rd base, with his best spot being 2nd base. His arm is average in terms of raw arm strength, but is plays up from the left side due to a very quick release. His hands are soft and sure and his throws are accurate. Morgan simply makes the play and is a polished defensive player. He ran 4.55 home/1st and posted a 6.98 60 time. Because he keeps getting better and better and has such feel for the game, it would be a mistake to say Morgan is only a college prospect (though he is at this point). He can play the game and as he gets stronger and more explosive, his future opportunities in pro ball should come.

Courtney Morgan is a 2007 MIF/3B from Mission Bay HS, residing in San Diego, CA, with a 5'11" 165 lb. frame. Morgan was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase, was written up in the Top Prospect list, and was invited to the National Showcase. He has a lean, athletic type build, and is well-proportioned. A right handed hitter, Morgan has a feel for hitting and a knack for getting hits. He gets to good extension through contact and keeps his bat in the zone well. Morgan basically keeps hitting pretty simple. He hits line drives with some gap power, handles different pitches and good velocity. He is consistently on-time with his swing and routinely competes well at the plate. Morgan's hands and his lower half both work well. Morgan is a player that continues to get better and better each time you see him, slowly creeping up on the more well-known players with his steady improvement. On defense he takes good angles to the ball and has shown himself to be a quality defender at all three INF positions. Morgan has a good release that works at each position and he showed the ability to make plays to his backhand. His arm can work at SS because of his release and he makes plays at SS, though his long term position is likely to be 2B. He is an efficient player with solid fundamentals but seems to lack the flow and quick burst-ability that mark top SS prospects. There is little doubt that Morgan is a good all-around player, though maybe not an impact player. He is a certain D1 prospect and should be a strong follow for all D1 programs next summer. His pro options will develop as he develops in college.

Morgan is a 5'10" 165 pound 2007 infielder and right handed pitcher from San Diego, California who attends Francis Parker High School. He has a medium frame and athletic build with some room to fill out. As a hitter, he has an average base and a short back side with some decent bat speed. He takes a good path to the ball and is a contact line drive type hitter. He has decent feet and actions in the field with a compact arm action that results in him throwing 82 mph during the workout. He is a solid and reliable defensive shortstop. Courtney showed some potential on the mound as well by throwing 82 mph with his fastball and 73 mph with his slider. He throws with a good downhill plane and a long arm action. He has decent mechanics and a slow delivery. Morgan has good command of his pitches but does throw too many strikes at times. His fastball has good action to the arm side and his slider is hard and tight with good depth on it. Courtney is a good prospect to follow in the next year. He has good grades as well receiving a 3.7 grade point average.

Courtney Morgan is a 2007 middle infielder from Mission Bay HS in San Diego, CA, with a 5'10", 165 lb. frame, and was named to the Top Prospect Team. Morgan has an athletic body with the lively and athletic actions to play the middle of the diamond. He has sure hands with balanced footwork, and his throws are crisp and on-line across the diamond with a clean transfer out of the glove and a compact and short release. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a slightly open stance with good weight shift to his back side, and is aggressive towards contact while staying balanced throughout his swing. Morgan has good rhythm and timing at the plate and drives the ball with very good bat speed. He also has very good speed running a 6.98-sixty on a slow track, and showed good game quickness. Morgan projects to be a good early of the order bat at the next level, and will be an important impact player. He is also an excellent student.

Courtney Morgan is a 2007 shortstop/right handed pitcher from San Diego, California with an athletic build that shows strength at 5'9", 165 pounds. He hits from a slightly open stance with good balance. He has very quick hands to the ball and generates good bat speed. He has a line drive swing plane and he hits the ball hard consistently. The ball jumps off the bat ina big hurry. He centers on the ball well and showed good power to all fields. He is a tough player, and you can see the desire to play in his game. He missed the workout portion of the event, but we have seen him play very good defense at other events, with a strong arm and good agility. Courtney pitches from a 3/4 slot with an easy delivery, and good balance. His fastball topped out at 80 with run. His curveball is his best pitch at 65 mph with a good 11-5 bite. He has good tools and he is a highest level prospect for 2007. Courtney is a very good student.

Coutrney is a 2007 grad from San Diego, California who we've seen frequently over the last year. He has a compact, athletic body with good present strength for his age. He has definitely gained strength during that time. Courtney is a good looking defender who moves quickly and aggressively to balls and is especially proficient at backhanding balls. We think he'll probably profile best at second base, but he has the skills to fill in anywhere. Courtney has always hit well at every event we've seen him at. He's a smart hitter who hits to all fields but who can turn on a ball with some authority and drive it hard. Courtney is going to be a baseball player we see and hear about for years to come. He has talent and the ability and desire to play and improve. He's also a very good student.

WP - Courtney Morgan is a 2007 2B/3B/SS from Mission Bay HS in San Diego. Morgan was the most projectable player in the event and it is easy to project what direction he is headed. He’s a slick fielding SS with a very small frame and all kinds of baseball ability already packed inside. His actions are outstanding and at the same time not trying to be flashy by making the plays quickly and efficiently. He has a good swing lacking only power which is understandable. He played 2B along-side the 1st overall pick in the 2004 Draft (SS, Matt Bush) and apparently learned a lot from him. He was one of only a few 2007 grads in the showcase and we can see early signs of a top player. He will be a fun player to follow over the next 2+ years.

Morgan was the youngest player at the Showcase; in fact, he’s a 2007 player (freshman) with the first 1989 birthday we’ve seen at a Perfect Game event. At 5-8, 155, Morgan looks like a freshman, too. But watch out! This young guy doesn’t play anywhere close to his age or size. Morgan was legitimately one of the top middle infielders at the event without considering age. He has quick, balanced actions in the field, made every play and showed close to average big league arm strength right now at shortstop. Morgan’s bat is what really made him stand out, though. He had no trouble handling wood in game situations, smashing line drives all over the park and even just missing a home run by a couple of feet. His bat speed and hand/eye coordination are exceptional for his age. This kid is an excellent prospect, watch out for him he should be fun to follow.
