2006 California Showcase-Aug 26 & 27
Collin Davis is a 2007 SS/3B/OF with a 6'1'', 180 lb. frame from Castro Valley CA, who attends Castro Valley HS. Selected a Top Prospect at this event. Davis is an athletic player, with tools that are still developing usability, but he is close. He can run, has a quick bat, and possesses a good arm. He is athletically built and well-proportioned. His upper body is broad and will hold more future strength and size. Davis has good bat speed and the ball makes a loud crack off his bat. His swing plane is flat and in time he should develop at least average power. He is really close to putting it together and should be followed closely in the spring time, especially by the local D1 programs. In the field he made a lot of plays, whether he was at SS or 3B. Davis is a versatile defensive player. His footspeed may keep him at shortstop if he develops the quick release and proper angles to the ball that are required at that position. He has a good arm and was good the backhand side, both of which play well at 3B, which is where his body may actually take him. However, until he plays his way out of shortstop, that is where he should stay. Follow him closely. He is a good student and a player that looks to be on the verge of putting it all together, tools and playability.
