D.J. Jones is a 2007 OF with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Gulf Shores, AL, who attends Gulf Shores HS. Jones was outstanding at this event. He had the fastest sixty time (6.33) and he ran it a second time and also was in the 6.3s. He has a good frame with rounded shoulders and athleticism. Defensively he is an advanced defender with easy actions and moves to the ball well. He has arm strength with a clean arm action, and his throws are very accurate. At the plate he has a smooth left handed swing with good balance and outstanding bat speed through the zone. Jones has quiet hands with the ability to hit to all fields. His hands work well, and he will hit for power in the future. Once on the bases he shows his speed and instincts. His tools match up with nearly anyone in the country. Great upside and top talent.

D.J. Jones is a 2007 left hand hitting outfielder from Gulf Shores HS, residing in Gulf Shores, AL. Jones is an impressive athlete. He is strong, with a broad upper body and sloped shoulders on his 6'1" 190 lb. frame. His build is absolutely ideal. Jones did not play as well as he can at PG National, but his tools and abilities showed well, to the point that he was ranked #24 among PG National Top 100 position players. He hits from a slightly open stance and has a nice, quiet approach to hitting. There is a feeling when he is in the box that he is totally comfortable and trusts his ability. His swing is lively, free and easy, with a flat swing plane. Jones has very good hands, excellent body control, and a feel for hitting. Currently he is a spray line drive hitter with power. His bat speed is very good and with a bat head that stays in the zone for a long time, he has power to all fields. That power will show up more in the future. In many ways he is similar to 2005 1st round pick, Jay Bruce. In the outfield he has all the tools to be an above average defender at all three outfield positions. His actions and movements are smooth and easy. The ball exited Jones' hand easily and his arm stroke was effortless. Put him in the line-up everyday and he is going to help a team win in some fashion with his tools, which are all strong and quite playable. He even has the run tool, evident with a 4.15 home/1st time and a laser timed 6.66 60 yard dash. Jones is a top tier D1 prospect who will also get early round consideration next June. There just aren't too many outfielders in any given year that have his profile, being L/L and quite toolsy, with a plus projectable body.
