Gonzalez is a 5-11, 155 lb middle infielder from New Mexico with a lithe and quick athletic body. Gonzalez has some strength hidden somewhere that he brings out when he picks up a bat. Most of it is probably in his hands, which are quick and strong. Gonzalez has a line drive swing and the ball jumps off the wood with authority. He's aggressive pulling the ball and even surprised us in batting practice when one of his line drives left the ball park. He showed the same type of bat speed and similar results in the games. Gonzalez is a 7.08 runner who shows good quickness and actions on defense. He has good fielding fundamentals and comes through the ball well. He doesn't have pure shortstop arm strength but he will make the routine play at the next level. We also liked the way that Gonzalez played the game. He's a hustling player who knows how to play. Good solid Division I talent with a bright future. Gonzalez is also a very good student.

Daniel Gonzalez is a 2006 middle infielder from Mesquite, New Mexico, who showed us some very nice tools in Waco. Gonzalez is wiry strong and has good overall quickness and speed. His workout at shortstop was undistinguished, but once the games started Gonzalez showed that he was one of the top defensive players at the event. He made all the plays, showing quickness and college level arm strength at shortstop, and turning one particularly excellent double play. Gonzalez plays defense confidently like he wants every ball hit to him. At the plate, Gonzalez has a quick slashing swing. He has a fairly large hand hitch, but works through it and keeps his bat on the plane of the ball for a long time. Gonzalez hit a number of balls hard in games and showed surprising pop. Gonzalez also pitched 2 innings, striking out 5 hitters with an 81 mph fastball and a deceptive low ¾ release point.
