Robert Stone is a 2007 3B/1B with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Castro Valley CA, who attends Castro Valley HS. He has a strong, broad, powerful body type. Offensively Stone has an aggressive hitting approach and aggressive swing. He is sort of a slasher, lashing the bat through zone and keeping his swing on a flat plane. He does a nice job of allowing the barrel to lag behind his hands, creating good acceleration through contact. Stone has good bat speed and has the ability to swing hard and still make consistent barrel contact. He jumped on pitches he liked early in the count, and he was not sitting on pitches in any one zone, he simply was ready to hit, period. There is no messing around for him with his "see it and hit it" approach. Stone banged numerous balls hard to the opposite field and banged any mistake up in the zone. He has some power, though it does not play quite yet. Defensively his hands work well and he moved aggressively to the ball. Stone threw accurately, with a bit of a low arm slot. He moved well around the 1st base bag and would bring some athleticism to that position. Stone is an interesting follow prospect for the college game entering the spring season and in time, he could develop into a pro bat.
