Blaine Washington is a 2007 SS/2B/3B with a 6'1'', 155 lb. frame from Temecula CA, who attends Chaparral HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Washington has a lean, wiry strong, lively body type that is very good for the game of baseball. He has projectable tools, pretty much across the board and looks to be the type of player that has a chance to make a big jump in the spring of his senior year. Washington has good feel with the bat. His swing is easy and his quick hands work well. His hands work inside the ball almost all the way through contact, resulting in an inside out swing. The barrel has nice lag and is very close to being squared up at contact. As Washington gets stronger, he is going to hit balls hard, with carry, to all fields. The swing he needs and will want is already present. He is short to the ball and has a quiet approach. Watch him come on this spring and then really do so in college. Defensively Washington is also a very nice player, with a quick, accurate arm, and good feet. He plays defense with feel and moves around the diamond easily. He turned the double play particularly well and was very athletic around the bag, displaying good body control. He ran 6.92 and got down the line in 4.32 seconds. More speed could be in his future, as he is still a long way from gaining as much muscle and power as he will later on. Washington is a solid student and projectable baseball player, with very good tools that are bubbling just below the surface.
