McDonald is a 6-0, 165 lb. 2006 left handed pitcher from Rancho Cucamonga, California with a lean frame. McDonald throws from the 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action and loose arm. McDonald gets good armside run on his 76 mph fastball and showed ability to locate that pitch where he wanted to. McDonald throws a 70-72 mph breaking pitch that breaks on the 1/7 plane. He also throws a 61 mph change up that has good late sink on it. McDonald has a nice fluid delivery and showed the ability to pitch inside. McDonald knows how to pitch and was able to get a lot of ground ball outs at this event. He swings from the left side and has a balanced swing from a wide base. McDonald uses a quiet approach from a closed stance. He is a good student.

Daniel McDonald is a 2006 left handed pitcher/outfielder from Rancho Cucamonga HS in California with a 5'11", 163 lb. frame. He has a lively presence to him and should have no trouble adding strength. He has a very balanced delivery with a good finish. His arm works very well through his release, and he shows a feel for the strike zone to project him as a reliable pitcher that should win and pitch at the next level. It appears he has more velocity on his fastball than he showed today. He topped out at 81 mph, but even with out his best velocity he breezed through three innings allowing only two hits. It was a very impressive outing and he showed the ability to improve and play at the next level. Offensively he has some raw power with good bat speed and pitch recognition. He is balanced throughout his swing with a slight lift in his swing. McDonald is also a solid defender in the outfield and takes aggressive routes to balls. He comes in on balls hard to get momentum to throw through to his target.
