Alex Koronis is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Miami, FL with a good body at 6-2, 195 lbs. He's a very athletic pitcher who can swing the bat with power and run under 7.00 as well. Koronis has a very relaxed, easy motion with good tempo and a small pause at the top to let his arm catch up. He has a smooth arm action and is clean out front. Koronis's fastball topped out 89 mph in Atlanta. He throws two types of breaking balls, a 72 mph curveball with a sweeping break and a 79 mph slider that has very good depth and sharpness to it. We didn't see a change up this outing. Koronis is a good student who has signed with Miami.

Koronis is a junior right handed pitcher from Florida who combines excellent arm strength with some prospect hitting ability, too. He’s an athletic and projectable 6-1, 185 lbs and has the frame to add plenty of strength in the future. Koronis was 85-88 mph in Fort Myers, consistent with what we’ve seen him pitch at in the past. He has a complicated and deliberate multi-part delivery which is very unusual but which works for him and he appears athletic enough to pull off. Koronis has a very large rocker step to start his wind up, plus a high leg kick and moderate stabbing action with his arm in back. Once all these preliminaries are done, Koronis gets his arm moving quickly towards the plate. He pitches very aggressively inside to right handed hitters with his fastball and gets good late life. Koronis’ curveball is 67-70 mph and shows promising spin and good 2-plane bite. While he didn’t show a change up, Koronis did show some feel for a 2-seam fastball in the upper 70’s and should be able to develop the change in the future. As a hitter, Koronis has a somewhat all or nothing approach at the plate, with a hard pull type approach swing with above average bat speed. He showed very nice college level power during batting practice and can probably hit cripples over the plate a long, long way in high school. Another thing we like about Koronis is that he seems to play with a good confident, aggressive edge and enjoys himself on the field. He’s a good student off the field as well.
