2014 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Jake Bear is a 2015 SS/RHP/OF with a 5-10 178 lb. frame from Sioux Falls, SD who attends Roosevelt HS. Compact athletic build, good present strength. 6.99 runner, quick feet defensively in the infield, charges the ball well, shows good arm strength, tends to stab at the ball a bit on ground balls. Also showed very solid fundamentals and aggressive actions in the outfield, could excel on defense at most positions. Right handed hitter, rock back load with limited stride, short line drive swing, uses his hands well, mid field line drive contact, manages his pre-swing movement and shift well, high average hitting approach, will flash some gap power, patient hitter who sees the ball well. Also pitched, simple on line delivery, compact arm action with a tight 3/4's release. Mid to upper 70's fastball, topped out at 79 mph, showed lots of confidence in a nice change up with some sink, soft curveball, threw strikes and made hitters swing the bat. Nice all around athlete and baseball player. Very good student.
