Cortney Arruda is a 2007 SS/P with a 5'6'', 140 lb. frame from Hilo HI, who attends Hilo HS. He has a small, compact frame but is athletically proportioned. Arruda is a solid player and has D1 ability across the board. He stands out most on the defensive side of the game. Arruda really likes to play defense and has good tools. He has a strong arm and likes to show it off. His low slot can at times lead to some erratic throws. He has good feel for playing defense, moving to and through the baseball well, with very good body control and nice actions. He is really good around the bag. Arruda is a line drive hitter with good bat speed. He has a good approach, stays balanced, and made hard contact in the middle of the field. He swings aggressively with good bat control. On the mound Arruda is also talented. His arm is quick and he could gain velocity with more core strength. His fastball was 80-83 mph and he has a snappy 71-73 mph curveball. With the way he works quickly and with his curveball, Arruda would make a good late inning reliever in college.
