Alex Gutierrez is a 2008 C/SS with a 5'9'', 145 lb. frame from Firebaugh CA, who attends Firebaugh HS. He has a rangy build on an average frame that still has yet to fill out. Gutierrez has enough ability and does enough on the field to hold a college coach's attention. He is an aggressive hitter and takes a rip at the plate. His hands tend to lead his swing a bit, creating some length, but that length on occasion leads to some opposite field hits. Gutierrez has some bat speed and decent raw hitting tools. Defensively he threw accurately in the workout and at times flashed ok hands as a receiver. He puts in good effort to block balls in the dirt. His arm action is a bit long but he has a chance to have a pretty quick transfer and delivery with a little work. For the most part his feet stay quiet as he comes out of the crouch.
