2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Jake West is a 2006 RHP with a 6'1'', 195 lb. frame from Bettendorf IA, who attends Assumption HS. He has a strong, mature build. West throws from a balanced, high leg kick delivery with a high, extended 3/4's release point. His delivery mechanics are solid and repeatable and his arm works well. West's best pitch was a 75-77 mph slider that was very sharp at times and has the potential to get hitters to swing and miss. West's fastball was 80-82 mph and had cutting action at times and heavy sink at others. We didn't see a change up but this would be an effective pitch for him to show hitters something off speed. West can be effective with his sinker/slider when he's pounding the bottom of the strike zone and mixing things up. West is also a very good student.
