2003 Western Underclass Showcase
Matthews had a quality showcase and showed us a variety of tools. His arm strength is close to Major League average and a short, compact release produced pop times as low as 1.95 to second base. Matthews is a big and strong young man at 6-2, 220 lbs but did a good job of keeping his swing short at the plate. He hit a grand slam in one game and had a number of other quality swings. Matthews is going to have to work hard to maintain his body life but his tools and skills definitely play. Andrew has lots of upside and he's a catcher with a very good LH bat. He’s also a 4.13 student.
