2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Jeffrey Beck is a 6'4", 180 lb. first baseman from Richmond, Virginia, with a lean and very projectable frame. We have seen him hit at several events, and he always wears out the middle of the field with hard line drives. At first base, Jeff shows college level arm strength throwing 79 mph. Jeff has very good footwork and moves well around the bag. He is a left handed hitter with an open stance and very good bat speed. Jeff was pulling off the ball and hitting around it in batting practice, but did a much better job staying back in games and using the middle of the field. Jeff has showed very good pitch recognition skills, and has a solid knee lift trigger, and good hand action to keep himself back on off speed pitches. Beck should develop more power down the road as he fills out and polishes his approach. He's a definite hitting prospect for college coaches to follow up on. His other skills play, and he is a very good student.
